Kewanee Police are investigating several burglaries over the past couple of months that have targeted local churches. These burglaries have been a bit different in that, in some of them, entry was gained but nothing was taken. In others, small amounts of money and bottles of wine have been stolen. Local churches have stepped up their efforts to be more vigilant about such things as locking doors and securing valuables, but the previous losses remain a mystery.
There is a possible connection with a night time intrusion into Central School, which was caught on surveillance video and appears to show a young male suspect, but so far the only definite connection is that all of the break-ins, including to the school, remain unsolved.
Some of the churches were entered by breaking windows, others were entered through the front doors, which in some cases had to be forced open. Some noise would have been made, and some time would have been spent, forcing entry into the churches.
Despite happening during the overnight hours, police are hopeful that someone may have seen something that looked suspicious.
Anyone who has any information about these crimes is asked to contact Henry County Crime Stoppers at 800-227-2324. You do not have to give your name, and if your information leads to an arrest you could be eligible for a cash reward.
