Beware of Traffic Light Scam

September 20th, 2011 by Henry County Crime Stoppers

Your phone rings and when you answer it the caller claims to be a police officer from a nearby community who is calling to inform you that you have an overdue traffic fine from a stop light camera. The “officer” demands that you pay the fine now, over the phone, or face jail time. Do not give the caller any information, as this is a complete scam and is being used across the country to not only steal money but complete identities as well.

We can’t say this enough: Never, ever provide personal or financial information over the phone, by e-mail, text, or mail when a stranger asks for this information.
